Old Point National Bank

Hampton, Virginia

The first phase of work has begun on Old Point National Bank's new $8 million headquarters in downtown Hampton. Old Point's five-story, 50-thousand square foot headquarters building will bring 45 corporate employees to downtown Hampton and house a much larger full-service banking office and the Hampton regional headquarters. It will be located at 101 E. Queen St., which has been the site of Old Point's downtown Hampton branch since 1977. The new structure, designed in a style evocative of early 20th century architecture, will provide on-site parking for customers. Its workforce will park in the Eaton Street surface lot.

"Old Point opened for business at a counter inside Cooper's confectionery store in Phoebus in 1923 and we have of course grown substantially since then," said Robert F. Shuford, Chairman and President of Old Point Financial Corporation. "Extending our corporate presence to downtown Hampton as well as in Phoebus is part of the bank's ongoing expansion strategy."

Old Point opened its 21st branch location in 2009 in Norfolk's Ghent section. The bank has also recently increased the staffing and product and service offerings of its corporate banking unit.

"Old Point's commitment to Hampton is an important asset for the city," said Hampton Mayor Molly Joseph Ward. "We encourage this kind of project, which contributes tax revenues, sustains high-quality employment, and enhances the City as a business, social, and cultural hub."
